Jack MERRIOTT (1901-1968)

Jack MERRIOTT 1901-1968 Painter, poster designer, illustrator and teacher. Studied at Croydon School of Art and St Martin’s School of Art.

He was a member of the Wapping Group of Artists, of which for a time he was vice-president; Croydon Art Society; Langham Sketch Club; and St Ives Society of Artists.

Exhibited RA, ROI, RI, RWA and RBA. Bradford City Art Gallery and Sunderland Museum and Art Gallery hold his work, which is characterised by a breezy freshness, crisp, with well-controlled colour. Lived at Polperro, Cornwall, an area he often painted.
