Collection of William (Bill) Hammond, director and producer at J Walter Thompson from 1955 to 1992. Hammond was both a friend and fellow student of Whishaw at the Royal College of Art. Acquired directly from the Artist.


About the Artist

Anthony WHISHAW (B.1930)

Born in London, studied 1948-52 at Chelsea School of Art, then Royal College of Art, 1952-55. Gained a travelling scholarship, Abbey and Spanish Government scholarship. In 1960 held first of many solo shows at Roland, Browse & Delbanco in Cork Street, London. In that year, Whishaw was the subject of the prestigious BBC arts programme ‘Monitor’, being interviewed by Huw Wheldon.

There followed numerous solo and joint exhibitions, including further awards, including, Arts Council, Abbey Premier Scholarship, and John Moores, Liverpool. From 1979, Whishaw taught at St.Martin’s and Chelsea Schools of Art..

Tate Gallery, Graves Art Gallery and other public collections hold work. Now a senior Royal Academician having been elected RA in 1989.
